Make a Boyfriend Day website for 3 October

National Boyfriend Day is 3 October, and it is the low-stakes holiday boyfriends actually like: no reservation, no gift, just proof you thought of them on an ordinary Thursday in autumn. A page is the ideal size for it, funny on the way in and honest on the way out.

The LoveFlix format gives him his own streaming homepage. A 'Who's watching?' screen with your two avatars, then rows of tiles: 'Season 2: The Flat', 'Now streaming: him asleep in the cinema', 'Critics' picks'. It is the format most likely to be screenshotted into the group chat, which he will pretend to be embarrassed about.

LoveFlix: name every block like an episode

In LoveFlix every block becomes a tile with a title and a 'continue watching' bar, so the titles do most of the work. Gallery: 'Season 1: The Early Days'. Reasons: 'Critics' picks'. Quiz: 'Interactive special'. Letter: 'Director's commentary'. Songs: 'Original soundtrack'. Counter: 'Running time'. Write them in the editor as block titles and the format renders the rest, including the profile screen with your names. The joke is stronger the more seriously you commit to it, so avoid winking; a tile called 'Episode 4: The Ikea Incident' with a real photo is funnier than a tile called 'lol remember ikea'. Use a dark theme; the format forces a dark base anyway, and the photos look better as tiles against black.

A quiz he is going to lose

Five questions about you, multiple choice, scored at the end. Your coffee order, the thing you always lose, the show you have seen four times, your mother's name (this one is a trap only if he gets it wrong), the food you say you like but do not. He will get two wrong and dispute the answer key. Write the score text for each range in advance: 'Cancelled after one season' for low, 'Renewed' for high. The quiz is the block he will send to his friends, so make the questions about you specifically rather than about the relationship, which nobody else can play. Six questions is enough; more than eight and he will stop before the end, and the end is where the score joke lives.

Reasons with receipts

The reasons block is a list with an emoji per line. For a boyfriend, tie every line to a moment from this year rather than a quality: 'You fixed the shelf and did not mention it for a week', 'You drove back for the charger', 'You learned my sister's boyfriend's name on the first try'. Ten lines, ordered from funny to real, last one sincere. This is the block that gets reread, and it works because it is evidence he did not know you had collected. If you have a WhatsApp export, the chat insights block adds the numbers: who texts first, who says good night, your busiest hour. Parsed on your device; only the totals go on the page.

One honest paragraph and one short video

After the jokes, the letter: four or five sentences in the sealed letter block, written the way you would text him, not the way a card would. Then the video block with twenty seconds of you saying it on camera, filmed somewhere he recognises. Both go near the end, after the quiz and the reasons, so the page goes light to heavy and ends on the true bit. If video is too much for either of you, the voice note block records straight from the browser and does the same job in a form that is easier to listen to on the bus. Do not overwrite the letter to balance the jokes; a short sincere paragraph after a funny page reads as more sincere, not less.

Send on the 2nd, unlock at midnight, get one back

Schedule the page to open at midnight in his timezone and send the link on 2 October with the countdown showing. You get an email when he opens it. The page ends with a reply box, text or a voice note, which gets you something better than a thumbs up. Girlfriend Day is 1 August, so if he is the type to reciprocate, the page has now shown him how. Skip the password; the page is small and a password on a joke page reads as strange. If he is in a different timezone, the unlock still fires at his midnight, and the opened email arrives whenever he wakes up. A page like this takes about twenty minutes, most of it choosing which photos he would be most annoyed by.
