Guide
Write an online love letter that feels like a magazine about you two
A love letter used to take stamps, a week and a certain amount of nerve. Now you can write one in a notes app, and the question is how to send it so it feels like more than a very long text. A message gets read once and sinks. A letter that arrives as something they can hold, flip through and come back to has a better chance of being kept.
The Magazine template turns your love letter into a flip-through magazine about the two of you. There is a cover with both names, the letter on its own page, your story, your reasons, your photos, and the songs that belong to you. It opens on a phone like a real magazine, one page at a time.
Why a magazine, not a message
A message makes everything the same size: a joke, a confession and a grocery list all arrive as the same gray bubble. A magazine gives each thing its own page. The letter gets a page to itself, so nothing else competes with it. The photos get space, the reasons get a list, and the songs get a spread. Flipping through slows the reading down, which is exactly what a love letter needs. It also gives the whole thing a shape and an ending, so it feels finished rather than trailing off. And it is hers to keep: the link does not expire, so she can reread it on the train a year from now.
How to write the letter itself
Start with a real moment, not a feeling. 'On the night you walked home in the rain without saying anything, I knew' is a better opening than 'I love you so much'. Say what you notice about them that they probably do not notice about themselves. Say one thing you are grateful for and one thing you want for the two of you. Keep it between 150 and 300 words, in short paragraphs. Write it, leave it for a night, and read it back out loud the next day. Cut anything you would be embarrassed to say to their face, and anything you would not actually say. Sign it the way you sign your texts.
What goes on the other pages
The magazine has room for ten pages, and you do not have to fill them all. The cover takes both names, a photo and a date. The letter has its own page. A story page is for how it started, in a paragraph. Then come reasons, a list of up to nine, and each should be specific, 'you always hum when you cook' rather than 'you are kind'. Add film strips of photos, a big full-page picture with a few words written across it, and a page of songs, each with a title and an optional Spotify link. Close with the back cover. If you have a story and no photos, that is fine too.
Pick a style that sounds like you
The magazine comes in three styles. Cherry is warm red and cream, the most romantic and the most classic. Noir is black and white with sharp type, for someone who likes a bit of drama. Blush is soft pink and gentle, closer to a keepsake. Choose by who they are, not by who you are. You can switch style at any point while you are building, and the preview updates as you go. Your words and photos carry over from one style to the next, so try all three and keep the one that makes you smile. The demo magazine on the site shows all of them with real content.
Sending it
Preview it on your own phone first, then publish and send the link. Previewing is free and private, so nothing goes anywhere until you send it. Publishing is $9.99, once, with no subscription. The link opens in the browser on any phone, so there is nothing for her to install. Add a password if you want it to stay private, and the page is not listed in search engines. Send it with one line, like 'I wrote you something', and wait. If she writes back from the page, you get an email. If it is for an anniversary or a birthday, you can choose when it unlocks and have it waiting at midnight.
